26 Nov 2011 – After a long few years of fundraising and planning Cookstown Curling Club celebrated their grand reopening of the new ice system with their very first bonspiel of the year called the “Turkey Spiel”.

“Many long nights and thousands of volunteer hours went into this project, in the end, it was well worth the wait,” explained Cookstown’s President Jeff Faust. “It’s been over 50 years that our old system provided us good curling and it was now imperative to upgrade the ice surface as well as the mechanical system at the same time.”

The overall budget of close to $200,000 was supplemented from internal fundraising, individual donors, grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, The Town of Innisfil Community Reinvestment Fund and many volunteer labourers.

On hand for the reopening was local Councillor Lynn Dollin and Innisfil Mayor Barb Baguley. “I’m proud of our community coming together to support this initiative,” said Mayor Barb Baguley. “The Cookstown Curling Club has done a fantastic job of making the club look great and I’m sure curling in Cookstown will last another 50 years or more.”  The Cookstown Curling Club will begin their next schedule of curling in the middle of January 2012.

Fundraising Appeal

On behalf of the Cookstown Curling Club Executive we welcome you back to an exciting year of curling!

We are happy to report the Cookstown Curling Club has completed a very successful rebuild of the new Ice Plant, Maintenance Room, Ice Header Trench, New Chiller and rebuilt compressors. All of this couldn’t be accomplished without the generous support and volunteerism of our curling club members (check out the pics in the photo gallery in the “About Us” tab). However we have more to do in 2012.

Because of the extra work required we are continually fundraising and looking at various opportunities. One opportunity we would like you to consider, as a friend of the Cookstown Curling Club, is a tax deductible donation to the Canadian Curling Association. Your donation will be redirected to the Cookstown Curling Club through this charitable fund and in turn you will be given a charitable tax receipt. Depending on the size of your donation, and if over $200, you could conceivably get 40% returned to you on your tax return. Check with your financial agent for further details. This way, you can help yourself and the Cookstown Curling Club – we all win!

Attached is a letter that we would like you to send in to the address provided on the letter. Please consider this opportunity.

If you are unable at this time to consider a charitable donation but know someone who would love to help us out, please kindly forward this appeal to that person or entity.
